This month we would like to shine spotlight on one of our own, Cathal Doyle, Senior Project Manager, and a project that’s close to his heart, the Central Night Shelter and the Central Shamrocks Basketball League. Cathal Doyle's father-in-law started the Central Night Shelter 30 years ago. Cathal Doyle got involved after he met his wife, Jessie. Her family’s involvement, he says, “made the shelter a part of my heart.” Cathal and Jessie Doyle would eventually join the board where Cathal would help jump start a 100% volunteer basketball league. The goal of the Central Night Shelter is not to hand...

It was a cloudy Atlanta day in February with snowflakes beginning to fall. Not a common occurrence but a perfect setting to do something that had never been done before. In a large conference room gathered the top 80 leaders of a parking company with a fantastic heritage. Just a year earlier Lanier Parking had been acquired with an eye to building the first real brand in the parking industry. And to do that the leaders of Lanier Parking had gathered to find their deepest story and with it the Lanier brand. In order to build a real brand, the leaders and line employees of a company have to tak...

Jennifer Koski, a writer from Rochester, Minnesota, wondered about Orlando Berrio, the friendly, Lanier Parking cashier she’d been chatting with for the last 10 years at the Center Street Parking Ramp in Rochester. According to Ms. Koski, “…Orlando is so friendly and kind that he leaves me feeling a bit better than I did driving in.” Orlando’s story begins in Havana, Cuba and includes meeting Che Guevara, fighting for, and then against, Castro, and eventually being exiled from Cuba and finding asylum in the U.S. http://rochestermagazine.com/orlando/berrio/story-1109.html

Before I joined Lanier Parking, I perceived the company as a well-managed organization with strong foundations and a great team. Since joining, I am aware that today's Lanier is about so much more. The company is a collection of awesome human beings who just happen to be parking professionals. As such, Lanier's collective voice is ultimately an inspiring collage of 2,000 personal stories, each one a valuable part of our company’s growing brand. This is not a PR stunt, fad or cliché -- It is real. You may have noticed some new faces walking around our offices in Atlanta, visiting other cities ...

A parking operations designer based in New Zealand, Kevin Warwood, took Transportation Demand Management (TDM) to task for supposedly requiring parking systems to operate badly on purpose. TDM asserts that through smart public policy, there can be a more equitable and efficient overall transportation system. It does not suppose any of the things that Warwood claims. TDM recognizes that parking is one component of a larger transportation system. Polices that affect one system affect all systems. For example, zoning that requires developers to build x number of parking spaces (i.e. parking mini...
